These are pictures I took from the UAE vs. Brazil match at Sheikh Zayed Sports Complex in Abu Dhabi last November. Brazil brought all of their superstars - with the exception of Ronaldo, who was out injured. There was a surprisingly disappointing turnout - probably due to the fact that the organizers hiked ticket prices to about 200 dhs. (about $56) for third tier seats! Football matches are usually free or very inexpensive in this region so that's considered expensive by regional standards. Still, it was great to see all the superstars like Ronaldinho, Adriano, Robinho, and Kaka play. The UAE held their own in the first half and Kaka's 20th minute goal was all the Brazilians had to show for. The Emiraties even had an equalizer incorrectly ruled out for offside. The Brazilian substitutes turned on the style in the second half. An Adriano penalty, a second from Kaka, two from Juninho Pernambucano, and further goals from Lucio, Fred, and Cicinho meant Brazil ran out undisputed 8-0 winners against the tired Emiraties. |
